A nice looking class 3 race over 6 furlongs with 13 runners and a couple of front runners to ensure there's a decent early gallop, King Of Tonga 8/1 hasn't any form on this surface over this distance and would need to improve upon its best turf rating to win this race and might be worth laying if of value to do so, Water Of Leith might be outclassed at this level, Mocktail is better over a shorter distance and both might be worth laying if a single figure price which I doubt, Tyger Bay, Astro Jakk and Ava Go Joe are closely matched on just course and distance ratings but would need to improve time wise to win this race, on times on this surface but elsewhere, in this ones case Wolverhampton, then The Lamplighter could do itself justice and any of them could make the frame but i will be backing 2 runners in this race, WATCHYA 6/1 is my top rated using either Newcastle or Wolverhampton and is one of the known front running types so this 3yo could add to its tally of victories, it isn't well drawn in stall 13 but could in the make-up of this race have the speed to get out and head for the rails and if getting to the front could prove hard to catch but I will also be backing BADRI 4/1 who can be held up or track the leaders and from its stall 2 draw it will hopefully be able to get a good early position and then stay on the stronger at the finish and I do like to cover both of those angles to give myself the best chance of making a profit from a race.
Abandoned due to the passing of The Queen.
SOUTHWELL 8.45
Another nice looking class 3 race over the straight 5 furlong course but this time with the full complement of 14 runners this time with 3 known front running type, Isle Of Lismore 8/1 has only produced slow times both here and at Newcastle and looks a better prospect when racing over a longer distance so could be worth laying as it might be a shorter price than it merits just because it won last time out over this distance but on a tough turf course, Newmarket, so might have been flattered by that result compared to today's conditions, of the front running trio of Equality 4/1 stall 2, The Bell Conductor 15/2 stall 4 and Lihou stall 5, 10/1, any of them could lead and any of them might even make the frame but they would need to improve a little bit to actually win the race, that's assuming others run to their best, my top rated horse using just course and distance ratings and the horse that's top rated using ratings from either Newcastle or Wolverhampton is the same horse THE THIN BLUE LINE 10/1 who has been running reasonably well lately but hasn't won, it is usually held up for a late run and likes a fast pace to aim at so this race should be run to suit it and hopefully get it back to winning ways and if an each way price, as forecast on the early tissue prices, then all the better.
Abandoned due tot he passing of The Queen.
Had been posted as Salisbury rather than Southwell, so I must apologise for that.
